No More Withdrawals From Jan 1, CBN Declares

The Central Bank of Nigeria says from January 1, customers of microfinance banks and other financial institutions (OFIs) without the bank verification number (BVN) will be unable to make withdrawals from their accounts.

In a statement on Friday, the apex bank announced an extension in the deadline for the verification, which was initially set for July 31.

“As you are aware, the deadline expired on July 31, 2017, and consequently several OFIs are in breach of this regulatory directive,” the statement read.

According to the statement signed by Tokunbo Martins, director, other financial institutions supervision department, the apex bank extended the deadline after appeals from various bodies.

In March, Kemi Adeosun, minister of finance had written to Godwin Emefiele, CBN governor, requesting that the BVN registration exercise be extended to microfinance banks.

“We have already commenced a review of such cases to identify and investigate cases of fraud,” she had said.

“We know that extending the requirement for BVN to microfinance banks may put a huge financial strain on the smaller microfinance banks; but some such as National Police Force microfinance (NPF), have over 27,000 salary accounts.

“Our inability to perform checks on such a large number of salary earners is a key risk.

“This will support the federal government’s efforts at reducing leakages to create headroom for the capital projects that will support the growth of the economy.”

    How to Retrieve lost BVN
How to Retrieve lost BVN – Many people have been written so much on the how people can retrieve their lost BVN. Yet i still understand that many people seems not to be getting it right. So i have decided to put up this article and teach many people out there how they can retrieve their BVN should they lost it. Please do not forget that BVN stands for Bank Verification Number. That means this article are for those who had theirs before and due to one reason or the other have lost it.
Contrary to what others must have told you, retrieving your Lost BVN Number is surely not a hectic one and does not have to be a stressful for you at all. The thing you have to do is to follow this steps shown below and you will assess you Bank verification Number which has been made mandatory by the Central Bank of Nigeria for any account holder to have.
So my candid advice will be that you go and get one if you do not have any before else you wont be able to withdraw from that account of yours.so if you don’t have Bank verification Number you should go and get your own now while you have the chance to do that because CBN gave a limited time for that.
Steps On How to Retrieve lost BVN
    1. Remember that while you registered BVN, you used a phone number. That same phone number, you registered your BVN with, the phone numbers can be any of these Nigerian GSM networks – MTN, GLO, ETISALAT and AIRTEL.
    2. Using your mobile phone and the number your registered the BVN with, you are to dial this code –
*565*0# you will see your BVN.
NOTE : Please be aware that this service is not absolutely free of charge o. You are been charged charged 10 naira by you network provider for the transaction. 10 naira anytime you dial the number.
